Happy 2012. One of my goals for this year is to try to improve the reputation lawyers have in the community.  Our office has pledged to do this "one case at a time."  I have practiced law in South Florida for over twenty years and I have personally witnessed the dramatic decline in the community's perception and respect for lawyers.  Sadly, some of it is deserved.

 

Organizations like Lawyers to the Rescue are devoted to helping those in need for free.  Pro Bono legal work is an important concept, not just for the deserving clients, but also to show the world that not all lawyers are like those portrayed on television or in the news.  Here is a recent interview of one of our clients on "Al Fondo Con Sevsec."       

Miami-Dade Circuit Court Judge David Miller dismissed our case today against South Miami Hospital and its Addiction Treatment Program for the suicidal death of a patient.  We alleged the  hospital and its medical team negligently failed to assess the patient's risk for suicide.  The case will be appealed to Florida's Third District Court of Appeal.   Click here to read more about Martinez v. Suicide is unfortunately one of the leading causes of death in Florida, claiming nearly 3000 lives per year. Those suffering from alcohol or drug addiction are at greater risk for suicide.  Our office stands committed to the belief that most suicides can be prevented.  The Centers for Disease Control and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention have developed programs to help educate the public as how to recognize the signs and symptoms of an impending suicide.
