ORMOND
BEACH -- An Ormond Beach woman
has filed a lawsuit against Wal-Mart
seeking damages for injuries she
claims she received when a security
guard grabbed her and falsely accused
her of shoplifting.
Carole Hopper is seeking in excess
of a million dollars from the retail
giant, said her attorney, Spencer M.
Aronfeld.
According to the lawsuit filed in
Volusia County last month, Hopper had
bought a shopping cart full of goods
and was leaving the Wal-Mart on
Granada Boulevard on June 29, 2003,
when security guard Patricia Armstrong
grabbed her from behind.
Armstrong is accused in the suit of
twisting Hopper's arm, causing
permanent injuries. Hopper was later
told that a salesperson forgot to
deactivate a sensor on an electronic
item she had purchased.
