New Royal Caribbean and Carnival Cruise Ships Hit Key Milestones

Two major cruise lines are nearing delivery of exciting new cruise ships with milestones occurring for both Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas and Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Jubilee.

Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas

Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas is set to become the largest cruise ship in the world. Recently, the vessel was spotted on her second set of sea trials in the Baltic. The vessel was tested to its limit during this trip, ahead of its scheduled debut in January 2024 in Miami.

The Icon of the Seas will have the largest waterpark at sea, with six ‘record-breaking’ slides and seven pools throughout the vessel. The vessel will also house eight individual neighborhoods for families, individuals traveling, and other guests spread throughout the ship.

In addition to its impressive size, this ship is equipped with some jaw-dropping features. For starters, the Icon of the Seas will have the self-proclaimed largest waterpark at sea, with six ‘record-breaking’ slides and seven pools throughout the ship. In addition to water activities, the ship will also have eight entire neighborhoods, for families, bachelors, and other guests spread throughout the vessel.

The Icon of the Seas is being marketed as a ship large enough to provide everybody with the vacation they want. Opening the gates to all kinds of vacation-seekers, the Icon of the Seas, upon announcement, saw RCCL’s “single largest booking day in its 53-year history when reservations opened.”

The Icon of the Seas will be separated into eight distinct ‘islands’. These Islands are:

Each of these sections provide distinct diversions with their own unique charm and service. With a high end Sushi restaurant, three-story tall family townhouses, and the first suspended infinity pool onboard a cruise ship, Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas is accomplishing many unprecedented marvels for the passenger travel industry that will disrupt how cruise ships will look and function in the coming decades.

Carnival Cruise Line’s Jubilee

The Carnival Jubilee also made a milestone of its own this week preparing for service from Galveston, Texas later this year. The vessel recently left the Meyer Werft shipyard, heading for the Ems River conveyance, which will then position the vessel in Northern Europe for sea trials and final outfitting ahead of its delivery. As it travels down the Ems River, the vessel, which is an LNG-powered ship, will be towed backwards by two tugboats. The Carnival Jubilee is the first cruise vessel built in Germany for Carnival, and it is also the third vessel in this class for the cruise line. The Celebration was delivered in 2022 and Mardi Gras was delivered in 2020.

The Carnival Jubilee will take things to the next level with six “zones” of fun. Zones are areas themed to transform a cruise-goers vacation into a unique mix of experiences.  Throughout the day, passengers can go from zone-to-zone. Two of them — Currents™ and The Shores™ — are new, oceany-fresh fun spaces. There are amenities and restaurants like the third bistro at sea — Emeril’s Bistro 717™ — from Carnival’s new Chief Culinary Officer; plus, Carnival classics like BOLT®RedFrog® Tiki BarFamily Feud™ LiveCucina del Capitano®Seuss at Sea™ and Playlist Productions™. These will be joined by fresh innovations like The Golden Mermaid™ and Dr.Inks, Ph.D.™.

The Reality of Larger Cruise Ships:

The greater the capacity of a ship, the more cruise lines can increase profits. This pursuit of increased profit, however, leads to increased negligence and endangerment for the passengers on board their ships. With ships as large as cities, passengers, isolated at sea, are subject to the same dangers that general urban living provides but on a much more concentrated level. Thousands of passengers every year sustain Injuries on cruise ships, regardless of the cruise line or the destination. What happens once you are injured, however, is largely dependent on which ship you choose to take.

Hurt While on a Royal Caribbean or Carnival Cruise Ship?

The amenities and features aboard cruise ships like Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas and Carnival Cruise Line’s Julilee are incredibly enticing to people planning a fun and exciting getaway. However, if your experience aboard a cruise ship ends with a less than enticing injury or illness, you should speak with an experienced cruise ship injury lawyer. More than likely, any claim you have must be filed in Miami, Florida, and a cruise ship lawyer in this location can be a huge asset to your case.
