Tragedy occurred on the last night of Norwegian Getaway’s most recent cruise. The ship, which departed PortMiami on Friday, August 21, 2026, was making her way back to Florida after visits to Nassau and Great Stirrup Cay, Norwegian’s private island. The passenger fell from his stateroom balcony onto an exterior promenade and sadly did not survive the fall.
The incident occurred between 11 p.m. and midnight on Sunday, August 23, during the final night of the three-night weekend cruise. Passengers above reported yelling coming from inside the stateroom before the fall. Other passengers noted the same man appeared intoxicated earlier in the evening, claiming he may have gotten into an altercation and swung at another guest before returning to his stateroom. It’s not confirmed whether the two incidents involve the same individual.
The alleged witness accounts seem to tell the story of what occurred that night, but Norwegian Cruise Line has not confirmed these details.
The ship put out an emergency announcement over the PA, letting those onboard know, “A passenger had fallen from the 10th floor, landing on the Deck 7 port-side walkway.”
Cruise lines often limit details after incidents like this to protect the family’s privacy, especially while investigators determine the exact circumstances and whether foul play or other concerns were involved.
There were no signification delays to Norwegian Getaway’s return to Miami on Monday, August 24.
