Go Karting On Cruise Ships

Go-Karting; How Dangerous Can It Be?

Go Karting, which was invented as an activity in  Los Angeles during the fifties, has been a fun pastime and sport for millions. The fast pace, fun karts, and interesting courses make it a very common source of amusement across the world. Go Karting is, however, a very dangerous activity that should not be taken lightly. According to the National Safety Council (NSC), go-karting injuries send more than 10,000 people to the emergency room each year in the United States alone. In another study published by the Annals of Emergency Medicine, it was found that go-karting accidents accounted for 35% of all amusement ride injuries treated in emergency departments in the United States. Norwegian Cruise Line was the first cruise company to introduce Go Karting on board their ships in 2017 on the Norwegian Joy, and since then many cruise lines have followed.

Go Karting on Cruises:

Many modern cruise ships now offer racetracks with electric go-karts that allow passengers to race against each other while enjoying the scenic views from the top deck. Here is a list of cruise lines which have Go Karting:

  1. Norwegian Joy, Norwegian Bliss, and Norwegian Encore – These ships are part of Norwegian Cruise Line’s Breakaway Plus Class and feature a two-level competitive racetrack that spans over 1,000 feet.

  2. MSC Seaside and MSC Seaview – These ships are part of MSC Cruises’ Seaside Class and have a two-deck high, Formula 1-inspired racetrack with electric go-karts.

  3. Carnival Horizon and Carnival Vista – These ships are part of Carnival Cruise Line’s Vista Class and feature the SkyRide, a suspended bicycle-like ride that also has a section for go-karts.

  4. Royal Caribbean’s Quantum-class ships – Quantum of the Seas, Anthem of the Seas, and Ovation of the Seas have a two-level racetrack with electric go-karts.

  5. Costa Diadema – This ship from Costa Cruises has a go-kart track that allows passengers to race around a 200-meter track.

Go-karting accidents have been reported on many cruise ships, oftentimes leading to serious injuries and even fatalities.

Common Go-Karting Injuries on Cruise Ships

If you or a loved one has been injured while go-karting on a cruise ship, you may be entitled to compensation for your injuries, medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering. Seeing that Go Karts are a common source of injuries for passengers, it is important to know what kind of injuries are likely to take place in a Go Kart incident. Common go-karting injuries on cruise ships may include:

  1. Cuts, Scrapes, and Bruises: These are the most common types of injuries sustained in go-kart accidents and can range from minor to severe depending on the nature of the accident.
  2. Fractures and Broken Bones: In more serious accidents, passengers may suffer fractures or broken bones, which can require medical attention and extended recovery time.
  3. Traumatic Brain Injuries: Accidents involving high-speed collisions or rollovers can result in traumatic brain injuries (TBI), which can have long-lasting and debilitating effects.
  4. Spinal Cord Injuries: Accidents that involve a high-impact collision or sudden stop can result in spinal cord injuries, which can lead to paralysis or other serious disabilities.
