Laser Tag Accident Injury

A History of Laser Tag

Laser Tag was invented in 1984 by George Carter III, an amusement inventor also credited with bumper cars and a mobile game. George Carter III claimed he was inspired by Star Wars when he assembled the first Laser Tag arena in Dallas, Texas. If you have ever seen a Laser Tag game take place, you can clearly see why Star Wars is credited as an inspiration; dark neon hallways overcome with unusual architecture, obstacles and fast-paced agents armed with laser guns running amuck. The goal of Laser tag is to point and fire your laser gun at an opponent from another team, and deactivate their gun; the team with the most ‘kills’ wins.

When Laser Tag first appeared, it was a national success, gaining virality among teens across the United States. Since the eighties, Laser Tag has maintained itself among the many staples of American amusement, in the class of bumper cars and ferris wheels. Major Cruise Lines such as Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Lines both introduced laser tag arenas into their ships in an effort to provide younger adults with more options for activities and draw attention to the growing technological prowess of their ships. Some ships that have laser tag on board include:

The Dangers of Laser Tag

Laser tag is dangerous. Deliberately intricate and unusually dark spaces with sprinting children, flashing lights, loud noises, and a fog machine makes any laser tag arena a very difficult place to navigate and avoid injury. Common Injuries while playing laser tag include:

  • Broken Noses
  • Sprained Ankles
  • Seizures
  • Tripping & Falling
  • Head Injuries

Cruise Ship laser tags often have rules such as “no running”, but these are rarely followed by passengers and can be difficult to enforce among the chaos of the game. Arenas on board ships, like the Studio B “Planet Z” arena onboard the Mariner of the Seas, are large and disorienting places played by two teams of strangers.

Injured From Laser Tag?

If you, or somebody you know, has been injured while playing Laser Tag, it is important to consult with an experienced attorney. Oftentimes laser tag arenas have players sign confusing contracts that limit how much action you can take against them if an injury takes place, so having an experienced attorney from our office review these documents can increase the likelihood that justice can be served. Cruise Ship Laser Tag injuries are common and avoidable. Our offices have been suing Cruise lines and laser tag arenas for negligence and endangering their users for decades, so contact our office as soon as possible so we can begin the fight for your justice.
