Port Canaveral is starting to return to normal as one of America’s busiest cruise ports, after nearly a year and half without cruises.
The Port’s CEO said there will be 66 total revenue sailings by the end of next month. Port Canaveral said that will be the most home-ported ships it has ever had. The first of those to set sail was Carnival’s Mardi Gras.
Royal Caribbean’s Allure of the Seas also set sail from Port Canaveral, after it successfully completed its test cruise just a few weeks ago. Royal Caribbean is requiring that all passengers show proof of a negative COVID-19 test before they board. Disney Dream also departed from Port Canaveral for a four-night cruise to the Bahamas.
This will be the busiest weekend for cruise ships departing from Port Canaveral as the industry resumes its operations. Cruises have been shut down for more than 17 months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Some infections have been reported. Last week, Carnival Cruise Line said 26 crew members and a passenger tested positive on a ship from Galveston, Texas.
