FBI Investigating Death Onboard Carnival Cruise Ship

The death of a passenger onboard the Carnival Dream has prompted an investigation by the FBI. Passengers onboard the ship reported being awakened by sirens during their 6- day Western Caribbean Cruise on Wednesday, July 23. One passenger claimed it was around 3 or 4 a.m. when they heard an announcement requesting medical assistance on the adults-only Serenity Deck.

An FBI maritime liaison agent is coordinating with the U.S. Coast Guard, Customs and Border Protection, and the cruise line regarding the incident. A spokesperson said they could not provide more information because of “the ongoing nature of the investigation.”

The Carnival Dream returned to Galveston, Texas on Saturday and made two stops in Mexico during the trip, which the incident occurred.  We extend our deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the passenger’s family and loved ones.

If you have been injured on a cruise ship, tender or in port, it is important that you seek immediate medical care and report the incident. Cruise lines often defend cases based upon a “lack of reported incident.” Also, immediately consult with an experienced passenger injury lawyer who is admitted to practice in Federal Court. Our law firm is based in Miami, Florida, the hub of cruise ship law.

The laws involving cruise lines are very different compared to other typical personal injury lawsuits. Maritime cases must be submitted in writing within 180 days of the incident, and suits must be filed in federal court in Miami, Florida.

Aronfeld Trial Lawyers has obtained millions of dollars in compensation for injured cruise ship passengers and crew members onboard the major cruise lines.
