Lido Deck Accident Injury

One of the main dangers of the Lido deck is slip and fall accidents. With the presence of water from the swimming pools and hot tubs, as well as spilled drinks and food, the deck can become very slippery. Because it is such a popular spot on the ship, it can become very crowded, particularly during peak times such as meal times or when the ship is in port. When there are too many people on the deck, it can be difficult for passengers to move around safely and can lead to accidents and injuries. In addition, the presence of large crowds can make it difficult for crew members to identify and respond to potential hazards, emergencies, or altercations.

The Lido deck can also pose a risk of drowning. Many cruise lines do not employ lifeguards, so if a passenger begins to struggle in the water it can be extremely difficult for a crewmember to recognize the danger, notwithstanding the hours of training required to notice such a thing in the first place. While swimming pools and hot tubs can be a source of fun and relaxation for passengers, they can also be very dangerous if proper safety measures are not in place. For example, if the pool or hot tub is not properly maintained, it can become a breeding ground for bacteria and other harmful organisms.  

Another potential danger of the Lido deck is the risk of falling overboard. While cruise ships have taken steps to improve safety measures to prevent passengers from falling overboard, accidents can and do still happen. If a passenger falls overboard from the Lido deck, the likelihood of survival is slim. In addition, the risk of falling overboard is particularly high when passengers are under the influence of alcohol, which is often over-served across all cruise lines.

Finally, the Lido deck can also pose a risk of foodborne illness. Because the deck often features buffets and other self-serve dining options, it can be difficult to ensure that food is properly prepared and stored. If food is not kept at the correct temperature or if it is contaminated with bacteria or other harmful substances, passengers can become sick. According to the CDC, Cruise lines are particularly susceptible to foodborne illnesses such as salmonella, E. coli, and the notorious norovirus.
