Slip and falls in a Florida

Dear Spencer: I was in a Publix store. Someone spilled some milk.  I tried to get around it.  I slipped and fell and cut my hand.  The store manager told me they were trying to get it cleaned up when I fell.  What should I do?

Thank you, Carl.

Dear Carl:

I am sorry you were hurt.  The most important thing for you is to make sure that you receive adequate medical care as soon as possible.  If you do not have a primary care doctor, you should go to the emergency room at your nearest hospital.

You should also photograph your injury, get the name of the store manager and any witnesses.

Do not under any circumstances sign anything or give any statements until you have spoken with an attorney.  Your attorney should also request that Publix maintain a copy of the surveillance video of your fall.  They have a tendency to not keep surveillance videos for very long, especially if they are damaging to their defense.

Keep your shoes, and do not wear them until your claim is resolved.  They are evidence in your claim.
