A passenger who broke his pelvis while on a trampoline attraction onboard the Royal Caribbean Mariner of the Seas ship is suing the cruise liner for $10 million in damages, according to a lawsuit filed on March 12.

The passenger, Casey Holladay was on the Sky Pad, which is a trampoline attraction on the Mariner of the Seas. While getting on this attraction, the user straps into a harness held by a bungee cord on each side. Holladay was injured after his harness snapped while he was approximately 20 feet from the ground on February 9. As soon as the harness broke, he fell, hitting a hard surface next to the trampoline and breaking his pelvis.

Holladay’s lawsuit alleges that Royal Caribbean was negligent in installing the Sky Pad trampoline on its ship.

Holladay’s girlfriend took a video of the incident, although Royal Caribbean staff members were also filmed by others trying to prevent passengers from filming the events occurring immediately after his fall.

As a result of his injuries, Holladay reportedly now suffers a disability, as well as permanent injuries that will require ongoing medical treatment and rehabilitation.

Aronfeld Trial Lawyers regularly represents passengers who suffer injuries onboard cruise ships. Attractions, like the Sky Pad, Sky Zone and FlowRider come with their own inherent sets of risks and can lead to injury, even if installed and used properly. The problem is, many of these onboard activities are either completely unsupervised or they are supervised by crew members that have little experience in their respective area. In the event, however, that cruise staff is not careful in installing the proper safety harnesses or is negligent in any way, resulting in any injury, you have rights and can sue for damages.
