The U.S. Coast Guard has suspended its search for a Royal Caribbean crew member who reportedly fell overboard the Majesty of the Seas off the coast of Florida last Thursday. The 26-year-old, whose name has not been released, was seen falling overboard by fellow crew members at approximately 2:35 a.m.
The U.S. Coast Guard 7th District Southeast shared an update, confirming that three crews were dispatched to search for the employee, who fell approximately 37 miles off the coast of Hillsboro Inlet in Pompano Beach.
“At 6:43 a.m., the U.S. Coast Guard advised the ship that they would be assuming control of the search. The ship was then released from the search and able to continue to Port Everglades,” according to local news reports.
The Majesty of the Seas, which was returning from a five-day cruise to the Bahamas, returned to Port Everglades later that morning.
This incident is similar to another Royal Caribbean overboard incident that occurred last month, during which a 20-year-old Royal Caribbean cruise entertainer went missing. The U.S. Coast Guard suspended its search for 20-year-old cruise ship entertainer working onboard Royal Caribbean Cruise Line’s Harmony of the Seas. The RCCL employee reportedly went overboard 267 miles northwest of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico on Christmas Day. The ship’s security camera footage shows Hough entering an area on Deck 5 around 4 a.m., where he was not seen again.
