Our Florida child injury law firm was saddened by the tragic news that ex-boxer Mike Tyson’s four-year-old daughter died this week after being entangled in a cord dangling from a treadmill in her family’s home.
Treadmills can be a boon to busy parents, offering the opportunity to fit in a workout without having to leave the house–perfect for early mornings, late nights or nap times. I know my children (the same ages as Tyson’s little girl and her older brother) are fascinated by our elliptical machine and like to pretend to work out like mom and dad. We never ever let them use it without our supervision, and we set limits on speed and incline.
This child’s untimely death is a sad reminder that we need to continue to be present and vigilant at all times. Also be careful when your kids visit friends and family who have treadmills or other exercise equipment.
