Everyone loves winning something or to be given something for free especially when it comes to travel, which is why many hotels and airlines use free upgrades as ways of showing customer appreciation.  However, when it comes to the cruise industry, passengers should think twice before accepting that ‘complimentary upgrade.’  According to an inside expert, it may not always mean you are getting a better deal and could mean you get a worse room.

The location of the cabin upgrade should also be considered. For example, if you would like your room to be in a quiet area or one that is closer to certain amenities, make sure the room included in the upgrade stays in that same location.

In addition, many times, upgrades will not include the same amenities you had in your original selection. If you have selected certain conveniences, such as priority boarding or priority dinner seating, make sure that your upgrade proposal does not eliminate these add-ons, especially if you have already paid for them.
